ChatGPT has taken over the world by storm. It has become the fastest-growing platform, with over 100 million users since its launch on 30 November 2022. It has over 13 million unique users every day, and people are finding new ways to make the best use of the platform.
Now, Google is all set to roll out its newest AI phenomenon, Bard, a chatbot that will provide the same services as ChatGPT. In their announcement blog, Google said, “We’ve been working on an experimental conversational AI service, powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), that we’re calling Bard. And today, we’re taking another step forward by opening it up to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.”
Google’s Bard will bring together its knowledge about the world and the intelligence of their expansive language models. To be precise, Google’s language model is built on Transformer, a neural network architecture, which forms the core of Bard. It will be a source where one can explore and discover myriad responses. Google mentioned in their announcement that Bard would be a “launchpad for curiosity,” and people can get as creative as they want with their questions.
What’s interesting is that Google is trying to incorporate the AI chatbot with their Search feature, making their everyday products more reliable and revolutionary. In one of his tweets, Sunder Pichai wrote, “As people turn to Google for deeper insights and understanding, AI can help us get to the heart of what they’re looking for. We’re starting with AI-powered features in Search that distill complex info into easy-to-digest formats so you can see the big picture and then explore more.”
Google is still working on the project, so Bard is yet to be released for public use. Currently, only select users are testing the platform to check its credibility and quality. They have produced a lightweight version of LaMDA, using fewer computational resources. With fewer users and computational resources, they can focus on learning more about user interaction with the chatbot and make enhancements as needed.
Google has stated that they are quite excited about this testing phase as they discover more about Bard and make it suitable for public use. They mentioned that with external feedback as well as internal testing, they would work on making Bard a high-quality and safe conversational AI. It is yet to launch, but Google will make it available to the public in the coming weeks
Other tech giants are not far behind. Microsoft has invested heavily in OpenAI, the platform that powers ChatGPT, and they are all set to integrate ChatGPT with their search engine, Bing. Despite these developments, people are still awaiting the release of Bard and what it holds for the future of internet search.
