Jeff Bezos has expressed confidence that his space company, Blue Origin, has the potential to surpass Amazon in scale and significance in the future. Bezos conveyed the belief that Blue Origin could become the most successful enterprise he has been involved in, though he acknowledged the process would take considerable time.

Amazon, which Bezos established in 1994, currently holds a market valuation of approximately $2.3 trillion. Blue Origin, founded by Bezos in 2000, has not publicly disclosed its valuation. The space venture remains privately owned and is financed through proceeds from the sale of Bezos’ Amazon stock.

It was acknowledged by Bezos that Blue Origin has not yet evolved into a highly profitable business. This admission was made in response to an inquiry by Blue Origin’s CEO, Dave Limp, regarding whether the venture should be classified as a hobby or a business. Limp, who previously served as an executive at Amazon, assumed leadership at Blue Origin at the start of the year. His appointment came at a time when the company, often viewed as a competitor to SpaceX, faced delays and operational challenges, contributing to its slower progress compared to Elon Musk’s space enterprise.

Over the years, Blue Origin has conducted brief spaceflights for tourists and research purposes, one of which included Bezos as a passenger. The company’s initiatives span the development of rockets, spacecraft, space stations, and lunar landers. The next significant objective for Blue Origin involves launching the New Glenn rocket into orbit, an endeavor Bezos described as being on the verge of realization.

SpaceX received praise from Bezos, who referred to them as formidable competitors within the space sector. Addressing broader industry concerns, Bezos indicated that he held no apprehensions regarding Musk’s association with President-elect Donald Trump.

Similar to comments made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman earlier, Bezos remarked that he accepted assurances suggesting Musk would not exploit political influence to benefit his enterprises at the expense of competitors.
